STC Webinar: System Thinking Process to Improve Care and Prevention of Infections at a Low Resource Setting
Event Type(s):
Professional Development
Description:
Tuesday September 24, 2019, 2:00- 3:00 pm, Central Standard Time.
What does change look like in health care settings? How can systems thinking be applied to improve outcomes of care where resources are scarce? How can one navigate the process in a global setting?
The Systems Thinking and Change Division is pleased to have Dr. Miguela Caniza, Director of the Global Infectious Diseases Program at the Department of Global Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, address these issues in a webinar on Tuesday September 24, 2019, 2:00- 3:00 pm, Central Standard Time.
During the webinar, Dr. Caniza will share a systems thinking process aimed at improving the care and prevention of infections in a resource-limited setting. After a needs assessment of a selected site, conducted through conversations and a visit to the institution, priorities were identified. Then, on-site personnel were trained and empowered to lead change and sustain improvement. A step-by-step process was followed during the needs assessment, the early implementation, and throughout the program evaluation, breaking each process into separate elements for best management. Dr. Caniza will reflect on the methodology followed and the results obtained.
